Volunteering

Solving the world’s toughest challenges requires everyone to play their part and AbbVie is passionate about collaborating with others to do more in local communities.

Week of Possibilities

The Week of Possibilities initiative is the company’s signature annual volunteering and community support programme. Work in Ireland is part of wider international outreach involving approximately 14,000 AbbVie volunteers from 50 countries.

Locally, AbbVie joined forces with the national volunteer development agency Volunteer Ireland to implement Week of Possibilities projects in four communities where the company has a major presence.

Employees from AbbVie’s six sites in Cork, Dublin, Sligo and Mayo joined forces to undertake a number of school grounds rejuvenation works, a community centre revitalization as well as a number of essential care and STEM pack assembly projects for schools and Barnardos Ireland.

Nationally, 1,100 employees from across six AbbVie locations in Cork, Dublin, Sligo and Mayo contributed more than 3,000 volunteer hours to the Week of Possibilities initiative.

AbbVie Ireland Beach Clean

In 2021, Volunteers from AbbVie sites across Ireland joined forces to remove litter at a number of local beaches as part the AbbVie Gives Back Ireland Beach Clean.

All of AbbVie’s different sites around Ireland are close to the coast. Almost 230 volunteers participated in the initiative, which was spurred by the big increase in visitors to beaches that summer due to a rise in Covid-19-related staycations.

More than 450 hours of litter collection was volunteered during the week at eight different beaches. Some 121 bags and close to one ton of beach litter were collected and handed over to various County Councils during the week.

The All for One AbbVie Cycle Challenge

During the summer of 2019, dozens of cyclists from across AbbVie’s sites in Ireland, as well as employees from the US, took to the road for the annual AbbVie Cycle Challenge. Their goal was to raise much-needed funds for North West Hospice in Sligo and Marymount Hospice in Cork.

To date, more than 250 AbbVie cyclists have travelled approximately 2,250 km for worthy charities, raising more than €150,000
